Do Spanish citizens need a visa for Indonesia?
Yes. Spain is one of the 97 countries whose citizens can use the visa on arrival. It is issued online — the e-VOA, IDR 500,000, 30 days, with one extension for another 30. The Spanish foreign ministry describes exactly this scheme and points to the official portal at evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
The document requirements: a passport valid for at least six months beyond your date of departure, with blank pages, in good condition. Spanish advice is blunt about it: a damaged passport or a shortage of pages means being sent straight home at your own expense.
What the e-VOA gives you
Point by point: how you apply, how long the visa itself is valid and how long you may actually stay.
- How it is issued. Entirely online, through the Indonesian immigration portal. You receive a PDF with a number and a QR code. Print it or keep it on your phone.
- Validity. 90 days from the date of issue. You can enter on any day inside that window, including the last one.
- Length of stay. 30 days, counted from the day you cross the border. The day you land counts as day one.
- Extension. Once, for another 30 days. The maximum on this visa is 60 days in one trip.
- Entries. Single. If you pop over to Singapore for a weekend, the visa is used up and you need a new one to come back.
❗ Planning more than 60 days? Do not rely on the e-VOA. Apply for a C1 tourist visa before you fly. You cannot switch from an e-VOA to a C1 inside Indonesia, you would have to leave the country and apply from abroad.
How the extension works
Start the extension about two weeks before your 30 days run out. Do not leave it to the last day. The application goes in online, then immigration gives you a date to come to the nearest office once, for a photo and fingerprints. The official extension fee is IDR 500,000.
We handle the paperwork and the appointment for you. If you already know you want the full 60 days, take the "e-VOA for 60 days" option in the price list below and stop thinking about it.
What documents you need
The list is short, and most of it is already on your phone.
- A colour scan or photo of the bio-data page of your passport. It has to be valid for at least 6 months on the day you enter Indonesia.
- A photo on a plain white background. A phone selfie is fine, no studio needed.
- The address where you will stay in Indonesia. A hotel booking is enough.
- A booking for a return or onward flight.
❗ Every child needs a separate visa, including infants. A child cannot travel on a parent's e-VOA.
Two things that catch Spanish travellers out.
The name on the application has to match the passport letter for letter. A Spanish passport carries two surnames, and both go into the form, in the same order. It is the mistake Spaniards make most often, and it gets its own section below.
The condition of the passport and the blank pages. Spanish advice puts it plainly: a damaged document or too few pages means being sent home at your own expense. Validity is counted as at least six months beyond your date of departure.

Express service
Two surnames: the mistake Spaniards make most often
A Spanish passport carries two surnames — the paternal first, the maternal second. The Indonesian form asks simply for "full name", and out of habit people enter what they use day to day: a first name and one surname.
Do not. The e-visa is matched against the passport automatically, on name and document number. If the visa says "Carlos García" and the passport says "García Fernández, Carlos", that is a mismatch — and it surfaces at the border, when it is too late to fix.
Do it this way: open the passport data page, find the machine-readable zone — the two lines of capitals at the bottom — and copy the name and both surnames exactly as they appear there, in the same order. Check the passport number against the same lines rather than the printed field above.
The same applies to nationals of Latin America and Portugal, where double and compound surnames are the norm.
Insurance: the figure Spain actually names
The Spanish foreign ministry is one of the few to put a number on it: medical evacuation cover of at least €80,000.
The reason is how Indonesian healthcare works. Public hospitals do not effectively serve foreigners, treatment happens in private clinics, and an air ambulance from Bali to Singapore or Europe runs into tens of thousands of euros. Spanish advice also notes that private clinics frequently bill foreign tourists at inflated rates.
Your policy needs outpatient and inpatient treatment, medical evacuation and repatriation — and, if you plan to ride a scooter, surf or dive, those activities named explicitly. "Riding a motorbike without the licence category" is the single most common reason a policy fails to pay out on Bali.
Cards and cash
Spanish advice puts it directly: cards are accepted, but fraud is common, and you should not let your card out of sight during a transaction.
On Bali that means: withdraw cash from ATMs inside bank branches and shopping centres rather than street kiosks, where skimmers turn up more often; ask for the terminal to be brought to you instead of handing your card over; decline the offer to be charged in euros, since the merchant sets that rate; and keep transaction alerts switched on.
And the general rule: payments inside Indonesia are made in rupiah only. That is a central bank requirement, not a shop's preference.
Who helps a Spanish citizen on Bali
The honorary consulate is in Seminyak: Kibarer Building, Jalan Petitenget 9-A, Kerobokan Kelod. Honorary Consul Mila Tayeb, +62 811 389 8880 (mornings, Monday to Friday), honorary.cspainbali@gmail.com or ch.bali@maec.es.
Its competences are limited: civil registry matters, notarial acts and passports are handled by the consular section of the embassy in Jakarta. The other honorary consulate in the region is in Dili, East Timor.
Before travelling, the ministry recommends registering with the Registro de Viajeros at registroviajeros.exteriores.gob.es — it is free and lets the ministry find you during an earthquake, an eruption or an evacuation.
As an EU citizen a Spaniard may approach the mission of any other member state where Spain is not represented — Council Directive (EU) 2015/637 on consular protection.
Your pre-flight checklist
Run through this the night before. These are exactly the things passport control will ask for.
- Passport valid at least 6 months from the date of entry, with two blank pages.
- The e-VOA saved on your phone and printed.
- The All Indonesia arrival card completed and its QR code saved.
- If you are flying to Bali, the tourist levy paid and its QR code saved.
What is the All Indonesia arrival card?
It is a free electronic form that every traveller arriving in Indonesia has to complete. It became compulsory on 1 October 2025 and replaced four separate documents at once: the immigration arrival card, the customs declaration, the quarantine declaration and the health pass.
You fill it in on the official site or in the All Indonesia app. The window is three days before arrival, and you can also do it on landing, though filling it in before you board is calmer. Once you submit it, a QR code arrives by email. That QR code is what you show at passport control.
❗ The arrival card is not a visa and does not replace one. You need both.
How much is the Bali tourist levy?
IDR 150,000 per person, about US$9.50. It applies to everyone who does anything touristy on the island, children included, whatever the purpose of the trip.
You pay on the official site or in the Love Bali app. Cash is not accepted, only cards, bank transfer or QRIS. The levy is paid once per trip and any time before you leave Indonesia, but the sensible moment is before departure. Save the QR code you get by email: it is scanned as you walk out of the arrivals area at Ngurah Rai Airport or at Benoa seaport.
Landing in Jakarta and never going to Bali? Then you do not pay it.
Which airports the e-VOA works at
The e-VOA works at the designated international entry points, and every airport a tourist would realistically use is on that list. Denpasar, Jakarta, Surabaya, Batam and the rest.
What happens if you overstay
The fine is IDR 1,000,000 for every day beyond your permitted stay, and you pay it at the airport as you leave. A long overstay is a different matter and can end in detention, deportation and a ban on returning. Immigration does not accept "I lost track of the dates", so check the stamp in your passport on the day you arrive and set a reminder.
Staying longer than 60 days
Two visas cover almost every case.
The C1 tourist visa gives 60 days and can be extended twice without leaving the country, up to 180 days in total. It needs a local guarantor, and MyVisa.World acts as one.
The D1 multiple-entry visa is valid for 1, 2 or 5 years and gives 60 days on every entry, with no limit on how many times you come and go. It suits people who visit Indonesia several times a year.
Why apply through MyVisa.World
We are officially registered in Indonesia and work with the immigration service directly, without middlemen. Your application is checked by a person before it is submitted, so a blurred passport scan or a photo with a shadow on the face does not turn into a refusal a week later.
Standard processing is 2 days. If you are flying tomorrow, the express service submits your application ahead of the queue and the visa usually arrives within 2 hours. We accept cards issued by any bank in the world.
Write to our visa specialist in chat, send a copy of your passport and a photo, and we will take it from there.
