Do San Marino citizens need a visa for Indonesia
Yes, they do. There is no visa-free arrangement between the two countries, and San Marino is not on the visa on arrival list: in the application form on the official e-Visa portal, a Sammarinese passport is offered only the 60-day C1 visa and the multiple-entry D1 visa, and there is no B1 (visa on arrival) line. A visa at the airport counter is not available either. For a tourist trip, Sammarinese therefore apply for the C1 visa in advance, before departure.
The San Marino foreign ministry's country note on Indonesia says the same: a visa is required, obtained through the Indonesian consulate in Rome or online. Online is simpler, but the application is filed not by the traveller but by an Indonesian sponsor, more on that below.
The passport, and what is out of date in the ministry's note
The passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival; the San Marino foreign ministry's note words this exactly as the Indonesian side does. Only the passport issued by the Ufficio Passaporti in Borgo Maggiore is accepted, there is no other document for entry.
Two points in the note are out of date. It asks for a Health Pass and a separate customs declaration, but since 1 October 2025 neither exists: both were replaced by the single All Indonesia arrival card, described below.
If you lose your passport in Indonesia
San Marino has an embassy in Jakarta but nothing in Bali. The honorary consulate in Surabaya, by its own register, covers only East Java, and Bali is outside its district. The first step in any case is a police report of the loss, then contact the embassy in Jakarta. In the San Marino foreign ministry's practice, Sammarinese are referred to the competent Italian consulate for a travel document for the journey home, which requires a copy of the police statement, two photographs and a ticket.
The C1 visa in detail
The visa is issued online through Indonesia's official immigration portal, but not from the applicant's own account: the application is filed from the account of a registered sponsor, an Indonesian citizen or company. The sponsor is required on paper and in practice, without one the application cannot be submitted. MyVisa.World acts as sponsor for its clients.
The government fee is IDR 1,000,000. Applications are normally decided within 5 working days of payment. Once approved, a PDF of the visa with a QR code arrives by email, and you present it on entry. Save the file on your phone and print it.
Now the visa itself:
- The visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. You can enter on any day inside that window.
- On arrival you are given 60 days of stay. The day of arrival counts as the first.
- It can be extended twice, by 60 days each time. That makes up to 180 days per trip.
- The visa is single-entry. It stops being valid when you leave the country, and you need a new one to return. If you visit Indonesia several times a year, the multiple-entry D1 visa is the better fit.
How the extension works
The extension application is filed online through the sponsor's account. Since 29 May 2025 the foreign national must also come to the immigration office once in person, for a photograph and an interview: that is required by immigration circular No. IMI-417.GR.01.01/2025. Under current practice in Bali the sponsor comes to the office together with the foreign national. It is best to start the extension about two weeks before the current 60 days run out.

Which documents you need
A C1 applicant must provide:
- A colour scan or photograph of the passport data page. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months on the day of entry into Indonesia.
- A photograph on a white background. A phone selfie will do.
- An address in Indonesia, taken from a hotel or villa booking.
- A booking for a return ticket or a ticket to a third country.
- A bank statement in English covering the last 3 months, with a balance of at least USD 2,000 or the equivalent. The statement may be in the applicant's name or the sponsor's.
❗ Every child needs a separate visa, infants included. A child cannot be added to a parent's visa.

Visa extension
The C1 visa can be extended twice in a row without leaving the country, by another 60 days each time.
The All Indonesia arrival card
This is a free electronic form completed by everyone arriving in Indonesia. It became compulsory on 1 October 2025 and replaced four documents at once: the immigration card, the customs declaration, the quarantine declaration and the health form.
It is filled in on the official website or in the All Indonesia app. The form can be submitted within three days before arrival. We recommend doing it before departure, so the QR code is ready in advance.
❗ The arrival card is not a visa and does not replace one. You need both documents.
The Bali tourist levy
IDR 150,000 per person, about $9.50. Tourists pay it regardless of age. Certain categories are exempt by visa type: KITAS and KITAP holders, diplomatic and service visas, crew members, student visas.
Payment is made on the official website or in the Love Bali app. Cash is not accepted, only cards, bank transfer or QRIS. The levy is paid once per trip, at any point before you leave the country, though before departure makes more sense. Keep the QR code from the email: it is scanned on the way out of the arrivals area at Ngurah Rai airport and at Benoa port.
If you have flown into Jakarta and are not going to Bali, you do not pay the levy.
What happens if you overstay
The fine is IDR 1,000,000 for every day beyond the permitted stay and is paid at the airport on departure. That is how the first 60 days of overstay are counted. Beyond that it is no longer a fine but an administrative measure: detention, deportation at your own expense and a ban on entry. Deportation can come earlier if you cannot pay.
After entry, look at the stamp in your passport, check the date your permitted stay ends and set a reminder.
If you need more than 180 days
Six months is the ceiling for a tourist visa: a C1 with two extensions. After that you have to leave and come back on a new visa. For regular visitors the multiple-entry D1 visa is the answer: it is valid for 1, 2 or 5 years and gives 60 days on each entry, with no limit on the number of trips.
Check before you fly
Before you fly, check:
- The passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry and has two blank pages for stamps.
- The C1 visa is saved on your phone and printed.
- The All Indonesia arrival card is completed and the QR code saved.
- If you are flying to Bali, the tourist levy is paid and the QR code saved.
