Do Romanian citizens need a visa for Indonesia?
Yes. Romania is one of the 97 countries whose citizens can use the visa on arrival, and it is easier to arrange in advance — online, at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. That is the eVOA: a fee of IDR 500,000, a 30-day stay and one extension by another 30. The visa itself is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, so you can apply a couple of months ahead as long as you enter inside that window.
The passport has to be valid for at least six months on the date of entry, with blank pages, and you need a return or onward ticket with a fixed date. A missing ticket is the commonest reason for trouble at the desk, and a Romanian passport is no exception.
Then two compulsory items that are easy to forget. The All Indonesia arrival card is an electronic form required of every international passenger since 1 October 2025; it replaced the customs, immigration and health declarations, is completed no earlier than 72 hours before arrival and produces a QR code. And the Bali tourist levy — IDR 150,000 per person, once per trip, in force since February 2024, paid online or on arrival.
Payments inside the country are in rupiah only. That is not shopkeepers' habit but a central bank requirement (PBI 17/3/PBI/2015): a price may be quoted in euros, but you will pay in local currency.
What the e-VOA gives you
Point by point: how you apply, how long the visa itself is valid and how long you may actually stay.
- How it is issued. Entirely online, through the Indonesian immigration portal. You receive a PDF with a number and a QR code. Print it or keep it on your phone.
- Validity. 90 days from the date of issue. You can enter on any day inside that window, including the last one.
- Length of stay. 30 days, counted from the day you cross the border. The day you land counts as day one.
- Extension. Once, for another 30 days. The maximum on this visa is 60 days in one trip.
- Entries. Single. If you pop over to Singapore for a weekend, the visa is used up and you need a new one to come back.
❗ Planning more than 60 days? Do not rely on the e-VOA. Apply for a C1 tourist visa before you fly. You cannot switch from an e-VOA to a C1 inside Indonesia, you would have to leave the country and apply from abroad.
How the extension works
Start the extension about two weeks before your 30 days run out. Do not leave it to the last day. The application goes in online, then immigration gives you a date to come to the nearest office once, for a photo and fingerprints. The official extension fee is IDR 500,000.
We handle the paperwork and the appointment for you. If you already know you want the full 60 days, take the "e-VOA for 60 days" option in the price list below and stop thinking about it.
What documents you need
The list is short, and most of it is already on your phone.
- A colour scan or photo of the bio-data page of your passport. It has to be valid for at least 6 months on the day you enter Indonesia.
- A photo on a plain white background. A phone selfie is fine, no studio needed.
- The address where you will stay in Indonesia. A hotel booking is enough.
- A booking for a return or onward flight.
❗ Every child needs a separate visa, including infants. A child cannot travel on a parent's e-VOA.
One thing catches travellers out more often than anything else.
The six months are counted from the date printed in your passport. Indonesian officers do not care when it was issued or whether extra months were added to it years ago. Look at the expiry date on the photo page and count from there.
Send everything to our specialists in chat. If you have not booked the return flight yet, say so and we will help.
Price and processing time
All prices include the Indonesian government fee and our service charge. We accept cards issued by any bank in the world. The express option means your application goes in ahead of the queue within two business hours of payment.

In Indonesia a Romanian is a "represented" citizen — and that changes the plan
Council Directive 2015/637 is the clause every European advisory quotes: a Union citizen may turn to any other member state's mission on the same terms as its own nationals. The condition usually gets swallowed. It applies where your own country is not represented.
Romania is represented in Indonesia. There is a full embassy in Jakarta:
- Ambasada României la Jakarta, Jl. Teuku Cik Ditiro 42A, Menteng, Jakarta 10310
- +62 21 3154362, +62 21 3900489, +62 21 3106240
- jakarta@mae.ro
- Out-of-hours emergency line: +62 811 109 6283
Those details come from the emergency contact list of EU and Schengen embassies in Indonesia kept by the EU Delegation in Jakarta. The same document notes something worth knowing: seven EU member states have no resident embassy in Indonesia, and six of them have signed representation agreements with another member state. Romania is not one of them.
So if you lose your passport in Kuta, walking into the French, German or Czech mission will not help — they will politely point you back to your own. The directive is insurance for countries where Romania has no presence at all. In Indonesia you will almost certainly not need it.
On Bali itself Romania has an honorary consulate; the foreign ministry keeps a dedicated entry for it in its register of missions abroad. An honorary consul is not a consular section — no passports are printed there. What you get is a link to the embassy, help with the language and local formalities, a hospital, a lawyer. Check the current contact details on the ministry's page before you fly: honorary posts change address more often than embassies do.
And keep the geography in mind. Denpasar to Jakarta is a flight, not a drive. Anything that needs a consular officer's signature means a ticket to Java.
The temporary passport: twelve months, of which six are useful here
Romania issues two ordinary travel passports, and the difference matters for this trip.
The electronic simple passport is the standard biometric one. The General Directorate of Passports sets its validity at three years under age 12, five years from 12 to 18, and ten years for adults.
The temporary simple passport is the fast one, issued when you cannot wait for the electronic book. It is valid for exactly twelve months.
Now the arithmetic that strands people at check-in. Indonesia requires at least six months of validity on the date of entry. A temporary passport only lives for a year. So it works for Indonesia during its first six months and not after: in month seven the document is still legally valid and already useless at Denpasar immigration. Neither the eVOA system nor the airline will warn you in advance — the check happens at the desk.
The same trap catches ordinary passports at the end of their ten-year run, only there you usually notice in time. Take the expiry date, subtract six months, and treat the result as your real deadline for entering the country.
One more thing about condition. A passport with a swollen page, a torn cover or an altered entry is void under Romanian law, and Indonesia will not accept it either. If the book survived last summer badly, replace it before you buy the tickets, not after.
Your Romanian national ID card is no use here. It flies you around the EU; Denpasar needs the passport.
The Jakarta embassy publishes Bali-specific notices
The Romanian mission in Indonesia runs its own local news feed, and Bali appears in it as a separate running topic, with updates and supplements to earlier warnings. The same site carries a standing page on getting married in Bali — the island is a popular wedding destination for Romanians, and the embassy keeps permanent instructions for it.
The point is the habit rather than any single notice. Before you fly, open the embassy feed and the ministry's travel conditions page for Indonesia. Things surface there that never reach general tourist bulletins: eruptions, airport disruption, local restrictions. Indonesia changes faster than aggregators update.
Your pre-flight checklist
Run through this the night before. These are exactly the things passport control will ask for.
- Passport valid at least 6 months from the date of entry, with two blank pages.
- The e-VOA saved on your phone and printed.
- The All Indonesia arrival card completed and its QR code saved.
- If you are flying to Bali, the tourist levy paid and its QR code saved.
What is the All Indonesia arrival card?
It is a free electronic form that every traveller arriving in Indonesia has to complete. It became compulsory on 1 October 2025 and replaced four separate documents at once: the immigration arrival card, the customs declaration, the quarantine declaration and the health pass.
You fill it in on the official site or in the All Indonesia app. The window is three days before arrival, and you can also do it on landing, though filling it in before you board is calmer. Once you submit it, a QR code arrives by email. That QR code is what you show at passport control.
❗ The arrival card is not a visa and does not replace one. You need both.
How much is the Bali tourist levy?
IDR 150,000 per person, about USD 9.50. It applies to everyone who does anything touristy on the island, children included, whatever the purpose of the trip.
You pay on the official site or in the Love Bali app. Cash is not accepted, only cards, bank transfer or QRIS. The levy is paid once per trip and any time before you leave Indonesia, but the sensible moment is before departure. Save the QR code you get by email: it is scanned as you walk out of the arrivals area at Ngurah Rai Airport or at Benoa seaport.
Landing in Jakarta and never going to Bali? Then you do not pay it.
Getting to Indonesia from Romania
There is no direct flight from Bucharest to Bali. Real routings go through Istanbul or a Gulf hub, one connection, sixteen to twenty hours door to door.
Leave slack in the transfer: if you miss the second leg the eVOA itself survives — it is valid for 90 days from issue — but your ticket and your first hotel night will not. Get the visa before you leave Romania: it arrives as a PDF, and you may be asked to show it at the gate for the long-haul flight.
Overstay, extension and the price of getting it wrong
The eVOA extends once, by another 30 days, so the maximum stay is 60 days. The extension is filed before the current permission runs out, and it is better not to leave it to the last day: immigration works at its own pace and the queue at the Bali office does not shrink towards evening.
Overstay costs IDR 1,000,000 for every day. The ceiling is 60 days of overstay; beyond that it is no longer a fine but deportation with a ban on returning. Every calendar day counts, including the one on which you turn up to pay.
You can handle the extension yourself or hand it to an agency — MyVisa.World, for instance: the company is registered in Indonesia, prepares the paperwork and watches the deadlines, which takes the risk of missing a date off your hands.
Staying longer than 60 days
Two visas cover almost every case.
The C1 tourist visa gives 60 days and can be extended twice without leaving the country, up to 180 days in total. It needs a local guarantor, and MyVisa.World acts as one.
The D1 multiple-entry visa is valid for 1, 2 or 5 years and gives 60 days on every entry, with no limit on how many times you come and go. It suits people who visit Indonesia several times a year.
Why apply through MyVisa.World
We are officially registered in Indonesia and work with the immigration service directly, without middlemen. Your application is checked by a person before it is submitted, so a blurred passport scan or a photo with a shadow on the face does not turn into a refusal a week later.
Standard processing is 2 days. If you are flying tomorrow, the express service submits your application ahead of the queue and the visa usually arrives within 2 hours. We accept cards issued by any bank in the world.
Write to our visa specialist in chat, send a copy of your passport and a photo, and we will take it from there.
