Do Liechtenstein citizens need a visa for Indonesia?
Yes. Liechtenstein is one of the 97 countries whose citizens can use the visa on arrival. You apply for the eVOA online before you fly: the fee is IDR 500,000, the stay is 30 days, extendable once by another 30. The visa itself is valid for 90 days from issue, so you can apply well ahead.
Document requirements are the usual ones: a passport valid at least six months on the date of entry, blank pages, and a return or onward ticket with a fixed date. Since 1 October 2025 everyone needs the electronic All Indonesia arrival card, which opens no earlier than 72 hours before landing. On Bali there is also the tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person.
And then comes the part that none of the neighbours has.
What the e-VOA gives you
Point by point: how you apply, how long the visa itself is valid and how long you may actually stay.
- How it is issued. Entirely online, through the Indonesian immigration portal. You receive a PDF with a number and a QR code. Print it or keep it on your phone.
- Validity. 90 days from the date of issue. You can enter on any day inside that window, including the last one.
- Length of stay. 30 days, counted from the day you cross the border. The day you land counts as day one.
- Extension. Once, for another 30 days. The maximum on this visa is 60 days in one trip.
- Entries. Single. If you pop over to Singapore for a weekend, the visa is used up and you need a new one to come back.
❗ Planning more than 60 days? Do not rely on the e-VOA. Apply for a C1 tourist visa before you fly. You cannot switch from an e-VOA to a C1 inside Indonesia, you would have to leave the country and apply from abroad.
How the extension works
Start the extension about two weeks before your 30 days run out. Do not leave it to the last day. The application goes in online, then immigration gives you a date to come to the nearest office once, for a photo and fingerprints. The official extension fee is IDR 500,000.
We handle the paperwork and the appointment for you. If you already know you want the full 60 days, take the "e-VOA for 60 days" option in the price list below and stop thinking about it.
What documents you need
The list is short, and most of it is already on your phone.
- A colour scan or photo of the bio-data page of your passport. It has to be valid for at least 6 months on the day you enter Indonesia.
- A photo on a plain white background. A phone selfie is fine, no studio needed.
- The address where you will stay in Indonesia. A hotel booking is enough.
- A booking for a return or onward flight.
❗ Every child needs a separate visa, including infants. A child cannot travel on a parent's e-VOA.
Two things that catch Liechtenstein travellers out.
The six months are counted from the date printed in your passport. Indonesian officers do not care when it was issued. Look at the expiry date on the photo page and count from there.
A temporary document will not get you in. Indonesian border control is wary of emergency and provisional passports, and no ordinary passport can be produced for you abroad. More on this below.
Send everything to our specialists in chat. If you have not booked the return flight yet, say so and we will help.

Switzerland has represented Liechtenstein abroad since 1919
First, a common error worth clearing away. Liechtenstein is not in the European Union, so EU Council Directive 2015/637 on consular protection does not apply to its citizens. A Liechtensteiner cannot walk into an Austrian or German embassy "as a Union citizen" — that right does not exist here.
Something else applies, and it has for more than a century. The Swiss foreign ministry puts it in one line: since 1919 Switzerland has protected Liechtenstein's interests abroad. Its consular pages are more precise still: Switzerland took on the protection of Liechtenstein's interests in 1919, at the request of the Liechtenstein government.
What that means for a trip to Bali is concrete. Liechtenstein has no embassy or consulate in Indonesia and will not have one — the principality's diplomatic network is tiny and has no presence in Asia. Your addresses on the ground are Swiss:
- The Swiss Embassy in Jakarta — Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said, Blok X 3/2, Kuningan, Jakarta Selatan 12950, +62 21 525 60 61. Full consular powers exist only here.
- The Swiss honorary consulate in Denpasar — Jalan Ganetri 9D, Gatot Subroto Timur, 80235 Denpasar, +62 361 264 149, bali@honrep.ch.
On scope, the Swiss ministry states that Liechtenstein nationals receive substantially the same advice and support as Swiss citizens, and its consular-protection pages name both groups together — "Swiss and Liechtenstein nationals". This is settled practice, not a favour.
One caveat about Bali: the honorary representation in Denpasar has no consular powers. It issues no passports and no visas, performs no notarial acts and handles no civil-status matters — for Swiss and Liechtenstein citizens alike. Documents are made in Jakarta.
The 2022 exchange of notes is not about Indonesia
Precision matters here, because this is the point most often got wrong.
On 8 April 2022 Liechtenstein and Switzerland exchanged notes on consular representation. The instrument entered into force on 1 May 2022 and appears in the Liechtenstein law gazette as LGBl. 2022 No. 137 (systematic number 0.190.910.111).
It would be natural to assume this is the basis on which the Swiss embassy in Jakarta looks after Liechtensteiners. It is not. The 2022 exchange covers the opposite situation: it lets Switzerland handle Liechtenstein's consular interests in countries where Liechtenstein does have its own mission — Germany, Belgium, Czechia and the United States. Austria is treated separately: consular matters run through Liechtenstein's embassy in Vienna, while identity-document applications may be filed at the Swiss regional consular centre there.
So the 2022 instrument is about Berlin and Washington, not Jakarta. For Indonesia, where Liechtenstein has nothing at all, the arrangement in force is the general one dating from 1919.
Why should a traveller care? Because if you read somewhere that "Switzerland represents Liechtenstein in Indonesia under a 2022 treaty", the author has not opened a single primary source — and because it helps to know on what basis you are asking for help when you make the call.
Losing your passport: an emergency document, and the way home
Here Liechtenstein's position differs from Switzerland's in a way that matters.
The official list of what Swiss missions do for Liechtenstein nationals reads: diplomatic and consular protection; registration of Liechtenstein citizens living abroad; issuing an emergency passport with short validity; receiving and forwarding applications for ordinary passports and identity cards; civil-status matters; and emergency assistance abroad.
Note the gap between the third and fourth items. A Swiss mission issues only the emergency passport itself. Applications for a regular passport or ID are taken and forwarded, and the document is produced by the Liechtenstein authorities at home. Getting a new ordinary passport made on Bali is therefore not possible at all, however long you wait.
And that runs into a second fact. The Swiss advisory for Indonesia warns that Swiss travellers have repeatedly been refused entry because they held a provisional passport, so only an ordinary passport should be used for Indonesia. Indonesian border control is wary of temporary documents. For a Liechtensteiner the conclusion is practical: an emergency passport issued in Jakarta solves "fly home"; it does not solve "come back next week". A multi-stop itinerary will have to be rebuilt.
The sequence after a loss: police report → call the Swiss embassy in Jakarta (on Bali, the honorary consulate will connect you) → emergency document → departure. Days, not hours.
Trip registration, francs and rupiah
Trip registration is Swiss too. Liechtenstein citizens living abroad register through the FDFA's online desk on the same footing as Swiss nationals, and for the trip itself there is Travel Admin, the Swiss ministry's app and online registration. Its own wording: register your trip abroad so that we can contact you if the security situation deteriorates markedly. In a country with active volcanoes that is not paperwork.
It also puts you inside the Swiss advisory for Indonesia, which is unusually detailed: travel to Papua is advised against because of armed clashes, heightened caution is urged in Central Sulawesi and Aceh, drug offences carry multi-year sentences for even minimal quantities, and timeshare contracts on Bali come with an explicit warning about lost deposits.
On money: Liechtenstein is in currency union with Switzerland, so you arrive with francs — but all payments inside Indonesia must be made in rupiah under the central bank's rule (PBI 17/3/PBI/2015). Prices quoted in dollars or euros are indicative only. Change money at banks or licensed exchange offices, never at a stall advertising the best rate on the island.
Medically: care outside the major cities is limited, hospitals usually want payment upfront, and Swiss basic insurance reimburses emergency treatment outside the EU and EFTA at no more than twice the Swiss tariff. Cover that includes evacuation is not a luxury.
Your pre-flight checklist
Run through this the night before. These are exactly the things passport control will ask for.
- Passport valid at least 6 months from the date of entry, with two blank pages.
- The e-VOA saved on your phone and printed.
- The All Indonesia arrival card completed and its QR code saved.
- If you are flying to Bali, the tourist levy paid and its QR code saved.
What is the All Indonesia arrival card?
It is a free electronic form that every traveller arriving in Indonesia has to complete. It became compulsory on 1 October 2025 and replaced four separate documents at once: the immigration arrival card, the customs declaration, the quarantine declaration and the health pass.
You fill it in on the official site or in the All Indonesia app. The window is three days before arrival, and you can also do it on landing, though filling it in before you board is calmer. Once you submit it, a QR code arrives by email. That QR code is what you show at passport control.
❗ The arrival card is not a visa and does not replace one. You need both.
How much is the Bali tourist levy?
IDR 150,000 per person, about USD 9.50. It applies to everyone who does anything touristy on the island, children included, whatever the purpose of the trip.
You pay on the official site or in the Love Bali app. Cash is not accepted, only cards, bank transfer or QRIS. The levy is paid once per trip and any time before you leave Indonesia, but the sensible moment is before departure. Save the QR code you get by email: it is scanned as you walk out of the arrivals area at Ngurah Rai Airport or at Benoa seaport.
Landing in Jakarta and never going to Bali? Then you do not pay it.
What happens if you overstay
The fine is IDR 1,000,000 for every day beyond your permitted stay, and you pay it at the airport as you leave. A long overstay is a different matter and can end in detention, deportation and a ban on returning. Immigration does not accept "I lost track of the dates", so check the stamp in your passport on the day you arrive and set a reminder.
Staying longer than 60 days
Two visas cover almost every case.
The C1 tourist visa gives 60 days and can be extended twice without leaving the country, up to 180 days in total. It needs a local guarantor, and MyVisa.World acts as one.
The D1 multiple-entry visa is valid for 1, 2 or 5 years and gives 60 days on every entry, with no limit on how many times you come and go. It suits people who visit Indonesia several times a year.
Why apply through MyVisa.World
We are officially registered in Indonesia and work with the immigration service directly, without middlemen. Your application is checked by a person before it is submitted, so a blurred passport scan or a photo with a shadow on the face does not turn into a refusal a week later.
Standard processing is 2 days. If you are flying tomorrow, the express service submits your application ahead of the queue and the visa usually arrives within 2 hours. We accept cards issued by any bank in the world.
Write to our visa specialist in chat, send a copy of your passport and a photo, and we will take it from there.
