Do Cypriot citizens need a visa for Indonesia?
Yes. Cyprus is one of the ninety-seven countries whose citizens can use the visa on arrival, and it is issued online — the eVOA. The fee is IDR 500,000, the stay is thirty days with one extension of another thirty. The visa is valid for ninety days from issue: that is the window in which you have to enter.
A passport with at least six months of validity on the date of entry, blank pages, and a return or onward ticket with a date. Since 1 October 2025 the All Indonesia arrival card is compulsory for everyone: filled in online no earlier than three days before departure, it replaces the customs, immigration, health and quarantine forms and produces a QR code.
On Bali add the tourist levy — IDR 150,000 per person, paid once, online or on arrival.
What the e-VOA gives you
Point by point: how you apply, how long the visa itself is valid and how long you may actually stay.
- How it is issued. Entirely online, through the Indonesian immigration portal. You receive a PDF with a number and a QR code. Print it or keep it on your phone.
- Validity. 90 days from the date of issue. You can enter on any day inside that window, including the last one.
- Length of stay. 30 days, counted from the day you cross the border. The day you land counts as day one.
- Extension. Once, for another 30 days. The maximum on this visa is 60 days in one trip.
- Entries. Single. If you pop over to Singapore for a weekend, the visa is used up and you need a new one to come back.
❗ Planning more than 60 days? Do not rely on the e-VOA. Apply for a C1 tourist visa before you fly. You cannot switch from an e-VOA to a C1 inside Indonesia, you would have to leave the country and apply from abroad.
How the extension works
Start the extension about two weeks before your 30 days run out. Do not leave it to the last day. The application goes in online, then immigration gives you a date to come to the nearest office once, for a photo and fingerprints. The official extension fee is IDR 500,000.
We handle the paperwork and the appointment for you. If you already know you want the full 60 days, take the "e-VOA for 60 days" option in the price list below and stop thinking about it.
What documents you need
The list is short, and most of it is already on your phone.
- A colour scan or photo of the bio-data page of your passport. It has to be valid for at least 6 months on the day you enter Indonesia.
- A photo on a plain white background. A phone selfie is fine, no studio needed.
- The address where you will stay in Indonesia. A hotel booking is enough.
- A booking for a return or onward flight.
❗ Every child needs a separate visa, including infants. A child cannot travel on a parent's e-VOA.
Two things that catch Cypriot travellers out.
The six months are counted from the date printed in your passport. Indonesian officers do not care when it was issued or whether extra months were added to it years ago. Look at the expiry date on the photo page and count from there.
The return or onward ticket needs a fixed date. Proof of onward travel is asked for both when the eVOA is issued and at the Indonesian border. If your routing is built from two separate bookings, have both to hand.
Send everything to our specialists in chat. If you have not booked the return flight yet, say so and we will help.
Price and processing time
All prices include the Indonesian government fee and our service charge. We accept cards issued by any bank in the world. The express option means your application goes in ahead of the queue within two business hours of payment.
Express service
There is an embassy — but the out-of-hours line rings in Nicosia
Cyprus runs one of the smallest diplomatic networks in the EU, and it has only a handful of missions in Asia. Indonesia is one of them. On the EU's official consular protection list, the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus is in Jakarta — Menara Astra, 38th Floor, Jl. Jenderal Sudirman Kav 5–6, Jakarta 10220, cyprusinjakarta@mfa.gov.cy.
Now the detail worth going there for. The emergency number on that list is a Cypriot one: +357 99 660 129. Not Indonesian. Out of hours you are calling home, five to six hours behind Bali. That is normal for a small service, but plan around it: the middle of the night on Bali is the morning in Nicosia, and the other way round.
Second: there is no Cypriot presence on Bali. Denpasar to Jakarta is about two hours by air, and anything requiring a stamped document goes through the capital.
Which is why, for a Cypriot on Bali, Council Directive 2015/637 is the first step rather than the fallback. A Union citizen may approach the mission of any other member state where their own country is not represented, on the same terms as that state's own nationals. Bali has European consular offices; with a lost passport and a flight the day after tomorrow, that is where you go — while writing to Jakarta in parallel.
The sequence: police report, then a European mission on the island or the embassy in Jakarta. Allow several days.
Driving on the left: the one EU country that does not have to relearn
Cyprus's official tourist guidance puts it plainly: "Remember to drive on the LEFT in Cyprus, like in the UK but unlike most of the rest of Europe." Indonesia drives on the left too. For a Cypriot, whose lifetime habit is to look right before pulling out, that is a genuine advantage — and it is exactly the reflex that catches out most Europeans in their first three days here.
What reflexes will not cover:
- Scooter density. Traffic flows past you on both sides, including the side you are turning into. Mirrors are useful at home; here they are essential.
- The horn is not aggression. A short beep means "I'm here, I'm coming past", not "I'm annoyed".
- Road surface. Potholes, sand tracked off the beach, shoulders washed out after rain. Cypriot cornering speeds do not transfer.
- Helmets. Cypriot police require them for rider and pillion. So do Indonesian police, and on Bali it is one of the commonest reasons to be pulled over.
One more: seat belts are compulsory front and back in Cyprus. In a Bali taxi people forget. Don't.
The licence question, answered honestly
Cyprus issues International Driving Permits through District Offices of the Road Transport Department, Citizen Service Centres and KEPO post offices. The permit is valid for one year and is intended for non-European countries that are signatories to the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic, under the Driving Licence Act 2001.
Here is the part nobody states plainly. Indonesia is party to neither the 1949 Geneva Convention nor the 1968 Vienna Convention. It signed the Vienna Convention on 8 November 1968 and never ratified it; it is not in the Geneva list at all. Cyprus has been a Geneva party since 6 July 1962. So there is no treaty bridge between a Cypriot IDP and an Indonesian road.
Practice works differently, and in your favour. Indonesian police regulation No. 5 of 2021 expressly provides that an International Driving Permit issued in another country is valid in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, on the basis of the UN Convention on Road Traffic or another international agreement. Indonesian police and rental firms ask for the IDP and accept it.
- Carry both documents. Your Cypriot licence and the IDP together. An IDP alone is valid nowhere.
- Check the category. A scooter is a motorcycle. Category B does not cover two wheels, and you have to open the category at home before you fly.
- You cannot get a permit in Indonesia. The Indonesian police issue theirs to citizens and to foreigners holding permanent residence. A tourist visa does not qualify.
- Read your insurance. Most policies exclude motorcycles unless the right category is on your licence. That, not the police, is where claims fail after a crash.
Getting there from Larnaca
There are no direct flights between Cyprus and Indonesia and there will not be. Cyprus Airways serves thirteen destinations in seven countries across three regions — the Mediterranean, Europe and the Middle East — and stops at the Gulf. It also codeshares with Air India for onward connections.
- Via the Gulf. Larnaca to Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi, then a single sector to Denpasar. One connection, the most predictable option.
- Via India. Delhi or Mumbai, then Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok. Cheaper, usually two connections and longer.
Book it as one ticket: with two separate bookings a late first leg is your problem, and Indonesian border control will still want proof of onward travel. And check whether your transit country needs a transit visa on a Cypriot passport — Gulf and Indian rules differ once you leave the transit area.
Your pre-flight checklist
Run through this the night before. These are exactly the things passport control will ask for.
- Passport valid at least 6 months from the date of entry, with two blank pages.
- The e-VOA saved on your phone and printed.
- The All Indonesia arrival card completed and its QR code saved.
- If you are flying to Bali, the tourist levy paid and its QR code saved.
What is the All Indonesia arrival card?
It is a free electronic form that every traveller arriving in Indonesia has to complete. It became compulsory on 1 October 2025 and replaced four separate documents at once: the immigration arrival card, the customs declaration, the quarantine declaration and the health pass.
You fill it in on the official site or in the All Indonesia app. The window is three days before arrival, and you can also do it on landing, though filling it in before you board is calmer. Once you submit it, a QR code arrives by email. That QR code is what you show at passport control.
❗ The arrival card is not a visa and does not replace one. You need both.
How much is the Bali tourist levy?
IDR 150,000 per person, about USD 9.50. It applies to everyone who does anything touristy on the island, children included, whatever the purpose of the trip.
You pay on the official site or in the Love Bali app. Cash is not accepted, only cards, bank transfer or QRIS. The levy is paid once per trip and any time before you leave Indonesia, but the sensible moment is before departure. Save the QR code you get by email: it is scanned as you walk out of the arrivals area at Ngurah Rai Airport or at Benoa seaport.
Landing in Jakarta and never going to Bali? Then you do not pay it.
What happens if you overstay
The fine is IDR 1,000,000 for every day beyond your permitted stay, and you pay it at the airport as you leave. A long overstay is a different matter and can end in detention, deportation and a ban on returning. Immigration does not accept "I lost track of the dates", so check the stamp in your passport on the day you arrive and set a reminder.
Staying longer than 60 days
Two visas cover almost every case.
The C1 tourist visa gives 60 days and can be extended twice without leaving the country, up to 180 days in total. It needs a local guarantor, and MyVisa.World acts as one.
The D1 multiple-entry visa is valid for 1, 2 or 5 years and gives 60 days on every entry, with no limit on how many times you come and go. It suits people who visit Indonesia several times a year.
Why apply through MyVisa.World
We are officially registered in Indonesia and work with the immigration service directly, without middlemen. Your application is checked by a person before it is submitted, so a blurred passport scan or a photo with a shadow on the face does not turn into a refusal a week later.
Standard processing is 2 days. If you are flying tomorrow, the express service submits your application ahead of the queue and the visa usually arrives within 2 hours. We accept cards issued by any bank in the world.
Write to our visa specialist in chat, send a copy of your passport and a photo, and we will take it from there.
