Do Bosnian citizens need a visa for Indonesia?
Yes. Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the 97 countries whose citizens can use the visa on arrival. It is issued online — the eVOA at evisa.imigrasi.go.id: a fee of IDR 500,000, a 30-day stay and one extension by another 30. The visa is valid for 90 days from issue.
The passport needs at least six months of validity left on the date of entry, blank pages, and a return or onward ticket with a fixed date. That last one is checked at check-in: without a ticket carrying a firm departure date you may not be boarded in Sarajevo or Istanbul.
Then the compulsory formalities: the All Indonesia arrival card, required of every international passenger since 1 October 2025 (completed no earlier than 72 hours before arrival, replacing the customs, immigration, health and quarantine forms), and the Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person, once per trip.
Inside the country you pay in rupiah only — a central bank requirement (PBI 17/3/PBI/2015). Convertible marks, euros and dollars do not work at the till.
What the e-VOA gives you
Point by point: how you apply, how long the visa itself is valid and how long you may actually stay.
- How it is issued. Entirely online, through the Indonesian immigration portal. You receive a PDF with a number and a QR code. Print it or keep it on your phone.
- Validity. 90 days from the date of issue. You can enter on any day inside that window, including the last one.
- Length of stay. 30 days, counted from the day you cross the border. The day you land counts as day one.
- Extension. Once, for another 30 days. The maximum on this visa is 60 days in one trip.
- Entries. Single. If you pop over to Singapore for a weekend, the visa is used up and you need a new one to come back.
❗ Planning more than 60 days? Do not rely on the e-VOA. Apply for a C1 tourist visa before you fly. You cannot switch from an e-VOA to a C1 inside Indonesia, you would have to leave the country and apply from abroad.
How the extension works
Start the extension about two weeks before your 30 days run out. Do not leave it to the last day. The application goes in online, then immigration gives you a date to come to the nearest office once, for a photo and fingerprints. The official extension fee is IDR 500,000.

What documents you need
The list is short, and most of it is already on your phone.
- A colour scan or photo of the bio-data page of your passport. It has to be valid for at least 6 months on the day you enter Indonesia.
- A photo on a plain white background. A phone selfie is fine, no studio needed.
- The address where you will stay in Indonesia. A hotel booking is enough.
- A booking for a return or onward flight.
❗ Every child needs a separate visa, including infants. A child cannot travel on a parent's e-VOA.
One thing catches travellers out more often than anything else.
The six months are counted from the date printed in your passport. Indonesian officers do not care when it was issued or whether extra months were added to it years ago. Look at the expiry date on the photo page and count from there.

Three kinds of passport, five issuing authorities — and nothing to worry about
Bosnian documents are structured more elaborately than the neighbours', which raises a recurring question: does any of it complicate an Indonesian visa? Take it in order.
IDDEEA, the state agency responsible for identification documents, lists three kinds of passport:
- civil — the ordinary passport for BiH citizens;
- diplomatic — for diplomatic representatives;
- service — for civil servants and official travel.
They are issued by different bodies, and this is where Bosnia gets specific: cantonal interior ministries in the Federation, the interior ministry of Republika Srpska, the public register of Brčko District, plus the foreign ministry for diplomatic passports, the Ministry of Civil Affairs for service ones, and diplomatic and consular missions abroad.
The point is that the passport remains a single state document of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The biometric passport has been issued under the BiH Law on Travel Documents since 15 September 2009: contactless chip, fingerprints, photograph, anti-forgery features, machine-readable zone. That is all Indonesian border control cares about — issuing state, number, and the data in the machine-readable zone. Which cantonal ministry printed the book is not asked anywhere in the eVOA form.
Validity, worth remembering because of the six-month rule: ten years for adults, five years for children aged 3 to 18, three years under 3. Diplomatic and service passports run five years. A five-year child's passport expires quietly — check the children's documents separately from your own before you buy tickets.
On names: Bosnian documents carry č, ć, š, ž, đ. In the machine-readable zone these become C, S, Z, D. Fill in the eVOA form in plain Latin characters exactly as those two lines at the bottom of the page render your name — Đurić may appear as DJURIC or DURIC depending on your book. Read your own passport rather than a general rule.
The Jakarta embassy also covers Timor-Leste and Singapore
Bosnia and Herzegovina has its own embassy in Indonesia, and it is a working regional post rather than a formality.
The BiH Presidency, by decision no. 01-50-1-337-15/21 of 2 February 2021 (Decision on Non-Resident Representation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Official Gazette of BiH no. 9/21), allocated which missions cover countries without a resident post. For Indonesia the wording is: the embassy in the Republic of Indonesia — in the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and the Republic of Singapore.
So Jakarta covers Singapore and Timor-Leste as well. Useful to know on a trip with a Singapore transit: whatever happens there, the mission you call is still the one in Jakarta.

There is no Bosnian consular presence on Bali. Denpasar to Jakarta is roughly two hours by air.
And to settle a point that is regularly confused: Bosnia and Herzegovina is not in the European Union. Council Directive 2015/637 on consular protection covers Union citizens, and a Bosnian passport is outside it. You have no right to walk into the German or French mission as a Union citizen. You also have no need to — your own mission is in the country.
Sixty days instead of thirty: a replacement passport takes twice as long abroad
Here is the number to carry with you. The legal deadline for issuing a Bosnian passport is 30 days from application. But for documents issued through diplomatic and consular missions abroad the deadline is 60 days.
The application must be made in person — biometrics, meaning a photograph and fingerprints, cannot be taken by post. So someone who loses a passport on Bali must first fly to Jakarta, apply there, and then wait up to two months by law.
An urgent 72-hour procedure exists at home for medical treatment, serious illness or a death in the family. It is built for applications filed in Bosnia, not at a mission abroad.
Which is why you go home on a putni list rather than on a new passport. The BiH Law on Travel Documents lists it explicitly among travel documents alongside the passport, the diplomatic, service and collective passports and the seafarer's book. It is issued for up to 30 days and is meant to get you home, not to continue an itinerary. The new passport is collected in Sarajevo, Banja Luka or your own canton.
The practical part is short. File the police report immediately — nothing starts without the certificate of loss. Keep a scan and spare photographs in the cloud. And assume the return date will move, ideally with insurance that covers the extra nights.
Two citizenships, one passport for the whole trip
Dual citizenship is common among Bosnian citizens, and on Bali it creates an obvious fork: which document do you travel on?
The rule is Indonesian, not Bosnian: the eVOA is tied to one specific passport number. Visa, All Indonesia arrival card, boarding pass, entry stamp and exit stamp must all belong to the same document. Enter on the Bosnian passport and you leave on the Bosnian passport. Presenting a different book on departure — one with no entry stamp in it — turns a routine desk into an investigation.
Choose between your documents on other grounds: validity, and where help is easier to reach. If the second passport is Croatian, that is an EU passport, and Croatia's mission plus Directive 2015/637 come with it; if it is Serbian, you gain the Serbian embassy in Jakarta. Decide before you apply for the visa, not in the immigration queue.
One detail people forget: the name in the second passport may be spelled differently — with or without diacritics, in a different order. The eVOA application must match the passport you actually enter on, character for character.

- Passport valid at least 6 months from the date of entry, with two blank pages.

- If you are flying to Bali, the tourist levy paid and its QR code saved.
What is the All Indonesia arrival card?
It is a free electronic form that every traveller arriving in Indonesia has to complete. It became compulsory on 1 October 2025 and replaced four separate documents at once: the immigration arrival card, the customs declaration, the quarantine declaration and the health pass.
You fill it in on the official site or in the All Indonesia app. The window is three days before arrival, and you can also do it on landing, though filling it in before you board is calmer. Once you submit it, a QR code arrives by email. That QR code is what you show at passport control.
❗ The arrival card is not a visa and does not replace one. You need both.
How much is the Bali tourist levy?
IDR 150,000 per person, about USD 9.50. It applies to everyone who does anything touristy on the island, children included, whatever the purpose of the trip.
You pay on the official site or in the Love Bali app. Cash is not accepted, only cards, bank transfer or QRIS. The levy is paid once per trip and any time before you leave Indonesia, but the sensible moment is before departure. Save the QR code you get by email: it is scanned as you walk out of the arrivals area at Ngurah Rai Airport or at Benoa seaport.
Landing in Jakarta and never going to Bali? Then you do not pay it.
What happens if you overstay
The fine is IDR 1,000,000 for every day beyond your permitted stay, and you pay it at the airport as you leave. A long overstay is a different matter and can end in detention, deportation and a ban on returning. Immigration does not accept "I lost track of the dates", so check the stamp in your passport on the day you arrive and set a reminder.
Staying longer than 60 days
Two visas cover almost every case.
The C1 tourist visa gives 60 days and can be extended twice without leaving the country, up to 180 days in total. It needs a local guarantor, and MyVisa.World acts as one.
