Singapore Visa Photo Requirements in 2026

Andrey Korsunsky

A visa photo for Singapore is one of the most important parts of the application. Even if all documents are prepared perfectly, a poor-quality or non-compliant photo can easily result in a refusal. In this article, we have collected all current 2026 requirements of the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) for applicant photos and explain how to take a compliant photo at home using a smartphone so it passes the check.

How the visa photo must look

Do not ignore the photo requirements set by Singapore’s immigration authorities. Refusals due to incorrect photos are very common. To avoid this, follow the recommendations below, which are valid for 2026.

  1. The background must be pure white (not off-white, but strictly white);
  2. The focus must be strictly on your face;
  3. You must look directly into the camera;
  4. Your ears must be visible;
  5. Your mouth must be closed (a slight, neutral smile is allowed);
  6. Your shoulders must be visible;
  7. There must be no shadows on your face;
  8. Your face must occupy at least 70% of the image and be centered in the photo;

❗ For women: tie back or pin up your hair so that your ears, eyebrows, and forehead are visible. Avoid bright makeup and lipstick. What matters is not appearance, but full compliance with ICA rules.

What must NOT appear in the photo

Below is a list of elements that are strictly prohibited in a Singapore visa photo:

  1. Fabric backgrounds such as curtains;
  2. Head coverings or niqabs (except in cases where headwear is required for medical reasons or strict religious obligations);
  3. Glasses with thick frames or tinted lenses, as well as sunglasses. If you wear glasses, your eyes must be clearly visible, without reflections or glare;
  4. Ovals, corners, frames, or cropped edges on the photo are not allowed;
  5. Red-eye effect is not permitted;
  6. Any signs of photo editing in graphic editors. Do not retouch moles, scars, or other distinguishing facial features.

Many applicants submit a scan of a printed passport photo. This format is not acceptable. We will ask you to retake such a photo to avoid a visa refusal.

Where to take the photo

The photo does not have to be taken in a studio. You can take it with your phone in almost any location. The best lighting is natural daylight from a window. If there is not enough light and shadows remain, use additional artificial lighting. Stand about 50 cm away from the wall and position the camera lens at eye level. Remember that the background must be strictly white.

Photo validity

Many countries require visa photos to be taken no earlier than six months before submitting documents. Singapore has a different rule: the photo must be taken no more than three months before the application is submitted.

Example of an incorrectly prepared photo

An agency that accepted an application with such a photo ruined the planned vacation for an entire family. The applicant received a refusal. To avoid this situation, consult experienced visa specialists from our service. The list of required documents and the application cost are provided in a separate article.

  • There is a visible shadow on the applicant’s face and body.;
  • Hair covers the ears and shoulders and partially hides facial features;
  • Only a very neutral smile is allowed;

Follow these simple instructions, and your visa is much more likely to be approved. Have a great trip!)
